Our new tank is cycling. Some of the coraline on the cured live rock started turning white yesterday (we put the rock in last Thursday). Today, some of the rocks are getting dark yellow patches.

Is this bad? Or is it just part of the cycling process? If it is a problem, I would like to take care of it now rather than later. :)

Please give me your comments & suggestions!

Sounds to me like some yellow sponge. I've got some l/r in my sump that has a really nice yellow sponge growing on it.

if the coraline turns white, it means it is dead, but it should grow back in time. I wouldn't worry too much about the yellow patches, proabaly is a type of sponge

Your rock will probably have color changes and sponges and other growths that will come and go as the tank cycle. Some of them may live others may not. Many sponges can become very attractive to have. Yellow is a pretty common color.

Yellow patches could be, and likely are diatoms (a form of silicate based algae that commonly occurs during cycling). You may also notice this algae on your sand and glass at some point within the next couple days. It tends to go away on it's own after a week or so.
