Hey Everyone-- So I went out and got a Refractometer today. Came home calibrated it and went to check my tank. Now, I had been keeping my salt level at about 1.023 with my float style guage.. Well when I checked it with the Refractometet it read 1.035!!!!!!! (I think I found out why my Naso Tang Died!?!?!??? )

Any recomendations for taking it down slowly? My tank is a 120. How much water should I pull out daily and replace with fresh???

    Any help would be great!

What kinda float salinity monitor was it? I have a tropic marin one that my lfs checks their refractometers against to make sure their refractometers are accurate. When u calibrate your refractometer make sure u use pinpoint calibration fluid and not distilled water. I used distilled water and found that it wasnt accurate.

I can always tell if my salinity is too high by taste.

sorry- I'm an idiot. I calibrated to the wrong number.. after I posted this I started to think how everything in the tank is doing great. so I went and checked myslelf calibrated to .53 and was supposed to go to .35

Surprisingly the float style one I have is accurate.. 1.024 on the float 1.024 on the refractometer. The float style monitor is a Marine Labs, Instant Ocean.. The Refractometer I got is a RHS-10ATC ???? Sorry for posting such a stupid mistake!
