She is very insistent on getting a turtle. We went camping over the weekend and hiking on the way home. Her plan was to find a family of turtles to take home LOL. She is 4 years old and I kinda owe her a new pet.

We had a Dachshund that I had to get adopted because it would always run away from her and I didn't want the dog to get hurt. I also wanted the dog to live a lazy life like it wanted so a retired older lady adopted her. Living happily ever after.

Back to the turtle question. Water turtle or box turtle? I know nothing about them really except wet ones have Salmonella and not sure about the land turtles. I'm not sure Santa will be able to afford this request LOL.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Box turtle, much easier to care for. They both however have the potential to carry Salmonella. Box turtle are cheaper to care for. Just make sure you give them a varied diet. Many times you can find a Box Turtle rescue society.

After looking at this and the other comments a Box Turtle would be good living in FL I can build something in the back yard for it to live in. Ideas are brewing!

land turtle hands down!! When my boys were little, we kept water turtles (had them for quite some time) and they are very dirty and changing the water is disgusting. Especially given that you live in Florida, a land turtle would be perfect!!
