mine also is a simple 1 inch pvc pipe. i drilled holes in the pipe to the point of it barely holding together also. still bubbling. ive heard of using a vent but not sure if it will work or not.
Filter socks im not really good with. i always forget to change them lol plus my sump is very, very good at getting microbubbles out before the return pump so those arent a issue. just the noise is driving me nuts!

what size pump are you using for your return? maybe one 1in drain is not really enough, i know if too much water try draining through a 1in drain tube it gets loud and gurgley-(word?)

Mag 9.5 I can dial it back and it didnt change much.

I put a t on the Pvc with another 90 going straight up and that made it allllot quieter. I can deal with how loud it is now. Since my tank sits right next to my couch I needed it somewhat quiet.

The shrimp i put in is starting to decay. I'll test in a few days and see where I'm at with the cycle.

Well the tank has the cycle smell going on. Hopefully that will only last a couple days. It's smelling pretty bad right now.

Also this tank evaporates like no water at all. I'm sure once I kick the halides on full time it will but right now it hasn't even drop a noticeable level in 3 days. I could get used to this lol

Gunna run carbon in a reactor. Not right now but probably in a few weeks. I'll be doing 6 gallon water changes every week after the cycle is done.
Turned the skimmer on for the first time today and its already skimmed about a inch of dark skimmate. Have to say I love this skimmer. It's dead silent too.

The biofuge is really tight. Very well made and works awesome.
I have no experience with there pumps.
I had one of there protein skimmers before and I wasn't to impressed. Although that was right in the beginning of them making them and since they have changed there design. I've heard nothing but good things from almost all of there products.

I think a biofuge would be too small as a single filter, even the 250 gallon. And it wouldn't be blue. The pumps are pretty much rebranded Reeflos with some performance tweaks, still made by reeflo. Excellant quality.
