wanted to get your opinion on my refugium i made last night
i already had a sump, but there was no room to add a fuge to it.
so i had a 10 gallon tank laying around that fit perfect right next to my sump.
the fuge is fed by my return line to the tank. there is a ball valve to control the flow.
i made a 1" pvc overflow to return the water from the fuge to the sump.

right now there is a 3-4" dsb, 4 chunks of live rock and a couple handfulls of chaetomorpha.

the light i have on it is a 6500k daylight bulb. (one of the swirly ones that uses less energy:))

    what do you guys think?

Looks pretty good to me. I dont know if I would trust the PVC overflow (not being able to see airbubbles forming). Another option would be to drill the side of the tank and use a bulkhead to return to the sump.

Ya i know what you mean. the pvc overflow was kinda a project just to see if it worked.(plus it only cost 8 dollars, so i figured what the hell) i didnt trust it at first, but it can handle some pretty good gph. and i have seen no signs of it not working. there is a check valve on top that has a airline attached to suck the bubbles out. i had it running in the garage for about a week and there was never any kind of prob with it. even simulated a power outage for a whole day and that thing started right back up.

I did a 10 gallon fuge with a PVC overflow and it did just that. Overflowed all over my floor. Can you drill the side of the tank or is it tempered?

so that pvc overflow was a pile of junk. worked for a while and then came home one day and it was about to overflow the tank.
i looked into getting the tank drilled but never did it. also looked into getting a 10 gallon acrylic tank so i could drill it but those are crazy expensive.
i had a 3 -4 gallon acrylic tank (little kid tank) sitting there so i tried it out. it works good put a bulkhead on it and away we go

    i call it the microfuge.

I guess sinceyou already drilled the small tank its whatever but I have an almost identical setup and I took my 20g long to a glass shop and they drilled the side for 10 bucks so you might consider this for your 10g if you want to increase volume later down the road
