    Hello everyone .

I got 2 peice's of white (bleached) Acropora , sure dead , they look very nice and am thinking to add them as decoration or maybe it will be good for the tank as well.

So far i heard lots of comments from friends and some LPS's owners which i don't know which right and wrong so here it is :-

1- Yes you can use it as Decoration as there is no harm to fish or other corals ( after sometime it will be live rock)
2- No you can't add a bleached dead acropora as it will shoot the nitrate high in the sky !!! "have no idea why"
3- you MAY use it , but it may harm the fish as they like to ich themself sometimes using corals , and since the shape is not friendly maybe it will cause wonds to fish !!
4- it defently will be good as it will help filtration !! that's why they use crushed corals in the fuge !!!

the weight of it is around 4KG.

so what is your feedback ??!?!

Sure, I would watch it. Fish could get wounds if they rub against it.

    It'll be just fine.

Just a few decades ago, before we discovered the benefits of live rock, bleached skeletons were all we had to replicate a reef environment in our fish-only tanks. In the wild, a lot of smaller fish seek protection in the branches of dead acros. Also, with it being branched rather than a solid shape, it provides a much larger surface area for the nitrifying bacteria.

FWIW, I've been using dead corals to decorate tanks for 38 years with no problems. :)

The only problem I see is it won't be nice and white for long. It'll cover in algae. But that's all.

the only way it could shoot nitrates up is for it to be still dying. But if it is dead???? couldnt do it.

I use dead coral not only for decoration, but as base for some of my frags!

Even then, it shouldn't be able to "shoot" up nitrates though, unless it's a nano. There just isn't that much flesh to rot off an sps coral.

Yeah, pick a nice encrusting coral to let it grow onto your bleached dead skeleton. Will make an interesting looking piece.

    sps as deor

Use it. It will add character. Mine has turned a great purple color from.the coraline and at
First glance it looks like a big purple acro. It also produces a great hair algae ( just because of the shape) that my fish love to graze on. Did i see the weight was 4 kg? Thats huge.
