Hi guys just wondering if you could offer any opinion on whats happened here. I bought a bi-colour angel on saturday, and when I got home last night I couldnt find it. Moved a few rocks and it floated out, its tail was missing and had a big chunk taken out of its side. The fish was fine on saturday and sunday moving around fine, and my other fish are all fine. The water conditions are spot on and ive been stocking my tank from least aggresive upwards. Its a 40g tank which currently has 5 mexican hermits, 5 blue legs, 2 clown fish and a blue cheek goby. I wondered whether the fish was already dead before it was eaten or whether ive got a murderer in the ranks

any clues or things to check would be much appreciated, thanks

Angels are just one of the harder fish to acclimate. What happened to your fish is not unusual for Angels. A healthy fish will not succumb to the CUC.

There is also a chance the way the fish was captured lead to it's demise. The use of Cyanide used to be common practice for fish collection, this is no longer true in many parts of the world but it does still happen. A sign that a fish was collect using Cyanide is it's death for no obvious reason a few days after purchase.

Man that sucks, I lost my copper band butterfly over vacation due to it being fed wrong. How did you acclimate it?

I sat the fish in the bag in the water to allow it to reach the tanks temperature for a good 30mins. then added a little of my water to the bag ever 20mins or so for a good hour, then released the guy into the tank. Seemed fine for days. hope ive just got unlucky. First tank and first loss so easy to blame myself I guess

Just me but i've found that drip acclimation works well for just about anything. Even if the species isn't that susceptible to fluctuations it hasn't hurt so far... If it's something that doesn't "need" the drip method i'll still use the same setup but go for more of a fast drip/slow stream. I've just found this to be an easy way to acclimate as you can set it and let it go for 1- however many hours you want... of course you have to keep an eye on it but that's no biggy. Bout the only thing that i don't acclimate this way are snails lol

That is how I acclimate the fish, corals get the float and slowly add water method though
