    Hello all,

I recently went out of town and a couple of my sps corals (birdsnests) died because my calc went as low as 260.
In addition, my pistol shrimp had taken up residence underneath of my plate coral and was causing it lots of agitation. I may have let this go on for too long, because when i moved the plate coral to a new location it stopped opening up and eventually developed a brown jelly where it's body was rotting. I removed it and it smelled atrocious.

Do you think the low levels of calcium plated a role in me losing this piece?
Or could my not intervening with the underside agitation caused by my pistol shrimp have been the main factor?

Any opinions? I feel bad because this was the first coral i ever got. :(

    Thanks for your help

Mine just did the same thing about a couple weeks ago. I have been sorta slacking myself working on my new build. I am losing my birdsnest also. I tested my alk and it was at 5.4.

    Reefbruh,
Do you think low calc and alk are the contributing factors?
I wonder why some other sps (acropora valida and orange monti's) for example did just fine??? Also my brain seems to be fine as well, as well as other LPS.

Maybe plates and birdsnests are just more sensitive?
    What do you think?

    Thanks for your help.
