    Hello,

Thanks for every ones previous help in my other threads. Now I'm armed with another question! Liverock is a bit expensive right now, so I plan on taking dead rock and just turning it into live rock. I read that I need the most porus type of rock, but can any one give me specific names so when I go to my local store I can pick it up. They have a variety of different rocks and was so confused -_-. Top few types of rock would be nice, so its hit or miss whats avail at LFS.

BTW - Any Delaware Reefers here?

    Thanks!

make sure it is an aragonite based rock. Other than that, it's all about your taste. The more porous, the more space there is for bacteria to live

You want rock that looks porous. They have all kinds of names, like Fiji or Tonga, but the name is less important than the quality of the rock. (And I mean physical quality, not value).

Get live rock that looks like this:

Avoid live rock that looks like this:

Since Rock is the subject may I ask a question? I am about to embark on curing of live Fiji rock being delivered today. Can the rinsing process be done with ordinary water and then the rock placed back into the curing tank? I ask this as a hose and nozzle would seem to wash off the debri that has been brushed. Would this short time in fresh water hurt the good stuff?

    Thanks from a newbee

If it where me I'd lay it out on a plastic sheet and blast it with a garden hose and then allow it to set out a few hrs to aloow any pest to crawl out of their nooks and crannies . All I ever saw had something to crawl out ..

Thanks Tangster, will try a hose/nozzle and the plastic to see what crawls out.
