i've been hearing that you can buy dead sand in a bag and put some live rocks in your tank with it and you can make it live sand. Is that it or is there something else that I need to do to the sand to make it live?

And if dead sand is ok what kind would you prefer?

The bacteria will colonies the sand... You can even get Dry rock and it will all become live over time beginning at the tanks cycle.

Any of the Xtra Fine substrate will do. The recommendation is to stay away from crushed coral and larger grain substrate.

Ok so i've been reading around and pretty much i've heard that using dry sand is like using at your own risk. And im ok with that... But i just found this sand that people are using that says "Do not use in aquariums" right on the bag. Is it still ok to use?

In my opinion, if I'm spending lots of money on equipment and livestock, why skimp out and have a less enjoyable and problematic experience due to cheap sand. You may be able to get by, but if you have problems down the line and have to change out sand, you'll regret it.
