    Hey Fellow reefers!

I found a dead snail Today. There where about 3 nassarus snails and couple hermits snaking on it. I also have an urchin, 2 ss stars, 3 shrimp ( a good cuc). Should I take out the dead snail or let them feast?? Thanks!

take it out if you have nitrate problems. otherwise you can leave it.

No nitrate probs, thanks for the advice, I feel like my cuc needs more food anyway, over did the cuc for a 55 gal. 4 Nassarus snail, couple of margarita and bumblebee and astrea, about 10 hermits, pink urchin, 2 sand sifting stars, coral banded, cleaner, pistol AND peppermint shrimp. And a weird orange/yellow thing that looks like a shroom but moves around the lr very slowly, I need ID'd, will post pics!

    Hi Mark,

Yeah, as long as the tank has been up for a while and Nitrates aren't a concern, let the snail become fancy feast. We have a 55 that is our oldest and most fun tank. No sump, and just a HOB Skimmer. We tried a Sand Sifter Star a couple years back, we did not have much luck. Be careful with those guys and watch their health. We learned the hard way that our environment just wouldn't produce enough food for them to live properly. Good luck.

um... I've got a 55. I've got over 200 snails in there of about 6-7 different species... Urchin and an emerald... Shrimp don't really clean much

Just trying to put it in perspective for you...

I would have a huge snail die off if I added that much, what and how often do you feed?

    no, you wouldn't. that's a common misconception.

I feed the fish about 2x a week. sometimes less.

I never ever feed the CuC. if you're feeding the CuC, then they're not a CuC.

your stars will probably eat them though... those two stars, in a 55, I doubt they"ll last all that long... they usually clean the substrate out and slowly starve. good luck though.

Pereid, what type of snails and hermits do you suggest with my set up?
