OK, this is a lesson for the newbies out there. It has to do with powerheads, suction and amputation (rippage). Below you see a standard AquaClear-50 powerhead. Sucks from the bottom and shoots out the side. Simple enough. The bottom has no screen. See where this is going?

So the turbo snail was cleaning, cleaning, cleaning when it happened onto the suction sometime last night. It literally ripped him up. So, I fixed the problem...

Sorry, I could not figure out how to rotate the pic. I had it rotated in photobucket, but that was not evidently good enough.

Soooo. Lesson learned. My bad. Should have throught about it before. Didn't. Cost: One turbo snail.

    Peace.......John.

John John John shame on you. LOL just kidding. Thanks for sharing. This is the kind of things that go unnoticed until it happens. This thread will probably save a snails life in another tank somewhere. K+

I had the same problem with the same power head. My snail lived to eat another day. I caught it in time and turned the power head off. Funny, mine was a turbo too. I just replaced the whole unit with a koralia.

I have one for you. I keep having snails climb up the return wier of my HOB aqua C skimmer. The dang things almost made it inide the skimmer. I have to rigg something up to keep them out.
