I have a canister filter, HoB filter and wet dry trickle filter. Am I going to have to get rid of those before I can use the Aquaripure denitrator?

That is an awesome tank, and also a lot of equipment. Looks like it took awhile to get everything up and going.

no, you dont have to remove anything. I turned off the UV and ozone to give time for the bacteria for denitrification to build up in the tank and settle in the aquaripure. the vodka makes the denitrifing bacteria multiply. in the begining you may see bacterial blooms in the tank. uv and ozone would hinder this process. once the bacteria colonize the aquaripure and it fully cycles, (when nitrates become 0) I turned everything back on.

I would not turn off any of your main filters. you may need to cut back on water changes so the nitrate build up initially depending on what you have in the tank to start with. when I intalled the unit I had about 40 nitrates. I did weekly water changes to prevent it from going any higher. did that for about 7 weeks. on the 8th week, my nitrates fell to 10. the following week 0.

you "feed" the unit twice a week until you get to that 0 mark and then cut it back to once a week

this tank is about 6 years old. I added the equipment over time as I wanted to make it more "pretty" lots of trial and error through the years and thousands of dollars of killed coral and fish as well as experiments with different skimmers, pumps and destroying ozone generators because I was too stupid to get back flow stoppers for the air hose line. the ozone reactor is the newer item i added. destroyed a c-skim 1800 directly injecting ozone to it. matter of fact I back flowed water into my current ozone generator while installing the reactor!!! waiting on a new one... again... number 4 in 5 years!

My nitrates always test between 0-5 but I have been battling a very thick turf algae on my live rock for the past 6 months. I'm looking for something like the Aquaripure that might help me turn the tables on this thick infestation.

how are your phosphates? the aquaripure will keep you at zero nitrates, it may take a while to cycle for you since you do not have high nitrates.

I also have a phosban reactor as well. no algae issues. you could also try a algae attack pack of crabs, snails, etc..

Phosphates test zero but I don't have a super expensive test kit for that. I have tried all sorts of critters and fish to eat the stuff but so far no one will touch it (including the tuxedo urchin I put in this week).
