this could be why your nitrates are so low. the algae is feeding off it keeping the number low and fueling them in the process. you make want to "starve" them by getting a denitrator

Thanks God503 for sharing your experience with the Aquaripure. There have been some mixed reviews about this product on the 3reef boards. I might give the manufacture a call myself. Do you consider running an ozone generator essential for use with a denitrator?

No I do not think its essential If you follow the directions to a tee. I run ozone because of the bio load that I put on my tank. Because my tank Is overstocked with fish AND the fact that I have a full reef means I run the denitrator at a higher output to maintain the 0 nitrates. I also run the ozone to make my tank more maitanance free by doing less water changes.

I too ran across some of that negative comments about the aquaripure when I did my research. But they were all from people who never used it, were mostly do it yourselfers that don't like to spend money and ill informed people who accused the product of just being and expensive alcohol doser. Like I said before, I have a science background and in my judgement after I researched the science behind the aquaripure I believed I made the right choice. The other options out there like the ones that use sulfur pellets didnnot apeal to me especially the reprocusions of an accidental overdose. If anything my pictures should prove my point.

When is it appropriate to put one of these on a tank? I plan to have a pretty high bioload with a mixed reef. Can you put this on your tank to soon ? I'm only two months in, my tank has cycled and i have fish, but it still goes up and down with nitrates.

if your tank is already cycled then go for it. it might take a while for it to cycle if you do not have high nitrates to begin with.
