hey everyone. Still working on lighting for the 90g I'm setting up. For at least a few months the tank will only be fowlr. Eventually I am sure I will start accumulating coral and may possibly select some sps. Does anyone know about the solar extreme and if it will be sufficient? It is only 4 bulb and I know many suggest 6 bulb on a 90. My lfs has a cheap used one I am considering picking up.

You get what you pay for. I am buying one for my GF's tank only because they are cheap. There are many other options out their where you will get more bang for your buck.

Moonlights dim and burn out quickly. Ballasts aren't exactly quality. Bulbs aren't much better than T8s.

In the price range of 200 dollars there is a lot more bang for the buck? I know the bulbs suck but are replaceable so no big deal. moons not that important. Just need a fixture that can potentially keep some intelligently placed sps in a 90 in the future

How deep is your tank may be the only issue, i use 4 x t5 and grow sps and clams fine, but my tank is also a 25 gallon, so 24x 12x 13. If you kept sps up high in the tank and use quality bulbs. Cheap fixtures are fine look up oddysea, prob one of the cheapest fixture makers ever. And next do a search and see thousands of reefers using their equipment.

Replace the bulbs and it should be fine.

Its a standard 90 so I believe that's 24 inches deep minus about 3 inches of sand

I have a 48" Solar Extreme 4 bulb with led moon lights. I like my fixture and a ton brighter than my old set up. It's time to order new blubs for me, but I think you'll be happy with the results.

Replacing bulbs adds another $80-100 to the deal. Good reflectors would add another $100. There is definitely a better bang in the $400 range.

You really do get what you pay for. What you feel loike paying is entirely up to you though.
