I finished my moonlights. It was pretty easy and turned out pretty good I think. I'll get some pics after it gets dark. I started taking pics while I was building but after the first few steps I was so into it that I forgot about the camera and before I knew it I was done.

Thanks for the compliments. I have really enjoyed this venture.;D

I am thinking about a shrimp buddy for the goby, but after building the moonlights I am over my allowance for the week already.

It took about 2 weeks. I bought the live rock locally and most of it was fully cured which I think helped speed things up.

Did you get it locally or by mail order? It doesn't matter how many times it has been cured, it's the most recent time that counts. My rock was out of the water for only about 30 minutes so I guess there was not a lot of extra die-off.

And don't worry, if your nitrites are present then your ammonia will be gone soon and as high as your nitrates are, your nitrites will be gone soon too. Once nitrites are zero, change about 10 gallons of water to help bring nitrates down a little(they don't have to be zero, mine stays about 5). I thought my cycle would never end, then one day it surprised me.

    Moonlights

I tried to get a pic of the tank with only the moonlights on but I couldn't get it to turn out well(old cheap camera). Here is a pic of the fixture. It is just a temporary fisture until I can save up for a T5 fixture I've had my eye on. It might be a while so I decided to add some leds to this light(I enjoy little projects like this). I'll try and see if I can do a video of the tank with the moonlights on.

Not Oscar worthy, but here is a video of my DIY moonlights in action.
