There are countless threads of the same subject but few are useful. I wanted to start one with a few simple rules:

    1. State which LED unit you think is best (can be a combination of value, appearance, growth, and whatever criteria you believe relevant to 'good' lighting)
    2. Support your statement with fact-based reasoning
    3. In order to participate/post, you must post a FTS picture showing the light in question
Hopefully this will give new LED buyers a way to objectively compare various LED's and see the 'look' and general coral health that each contributes to. I understand that there are other factors in play - primarily husbandry - but this should still give a good sense of the differences among lighting units.

One problem you're going to have with this thread is photography. LED's are difficult to get true color rendition through photo.

I highly doubt that will be an issue.

I'm with Greg on this one. It hasn't stopped everyone before and I doubt it will this time.

I was just saying how difficult it is to show the actual color with photo's. Not saying don't do it.

    Guys -

Regardless, it will be better than the countless threads filled with subjective prose. A picture, despite slightly inaccurate color rendition, provides an overall snapshot of coral health, growth (being able to see how much white there is on the perimeter of monti caps, for instance) and coverage.

Lets try to avoid posts about why this will/won't work and rather just post pictures and constructive analyses on LED lighting units.

    Well.. I'll get it started
    Maxspect Razor R420R 160w 16000k model 27``
Had this unit 3 weeks now.
Upgraded from 120w ebay unit w 5 colors and two orphek ml-7 bulbs.

Right away I noticed the improvement in color and control. I had been using the previous setup for about 7 months before I upgraded.
From using leds i know they can obviously grow coral. And on top of that are quite powerful so ramping up the power is key when switching over.

Overall I personally feel the Razor is the one of the best lights to buy right now. Great price, Lots of cool features and quality diodes that offer a great spectrum and an amazing price of 500$. I am picking up a par meter this weekend so will post numbers when I can. The biggest selling point of this fixture is how it looks. The ebay unit I had before was butt ugly sitting over my rimless cube. But now the razor completes the look. The aesthetics of a fixture is a huge point for me when it sitting on top of the tank.

    Edit
Pic 1 is Just Blues at 100%
pic 2 is blues 85% and whites at 65%
pic 3 is just blues showing unit on top of tank

This is not mine, but I thought it was a nice example of a Radion powered cube from a Reef Central member.
