when I had mine at the bottom but in light (T5's) it would only open after lights out...

now that it's in the shade, it's open the majority of the day and all night.

Reading through this thread ;);) it seems some of us have different experience with the whole light thing... you'll have to experiment... if it does open for you in the light, I would still try it in the shade to see if it opens more... A *good* spot isn't necessarily optimal, right. I know i tried 6 or 7 places before I found a spot where it would stay open.

Yeah, the flow is probably as much of a factor as the light. They like low to moderate flow.

Imma keep my fingers crossed.. I would say it's in an area of moderate flow. I have an acan near it that has it's tentacles open 24/7 and I see them swaying side to side pretty good.

Ok, it's starting to open!!! It's been about a week and I've broadcast fed the tank about 4 times. This was the first time it responded by extending some of it's tentacles..

I'm going to start target feeding now since it is almost fully open.. YAY, I'm soo happy!!

I never moved the coral or took it out and tried the tupperware trick. I don't fully agree with that method, even though people have good luck with it.

I'm glad I just stayed patient and waited.. I'll post more pics when they really start to extend the polyps!!

To give you guys more info on what I fed, I would like to add that they seemed to respond well to Oyster Eggs by Reef Nutrition.. Previously, I had added Marine Snow, Zooplankton, and Microvert. They respond to it all. I will start feeding my dendros meaty foods soon like mysis and brine shrimp once they really start to open up....

Glad to see and hear yours starting to oopen.

I add phyto feast (8ml) and oyster feast(8-10ml) along with cyclopeze (about 1/2 tsp.) every other day just added to the tank-no target feeding.
I target feed my dendro and duncans and just recently my Acans the brine/mysis about 2-3 times a week.

My Dendro has not been open hardly at all lately-I'm wondering if it likes the water a little more "dirty"

I have my NO3 at about .01ppm now and I used to be about 20ppm. Seems funny I read about how people try to get close to zero, I'm going to try and raise mine a little and see whats up.

Somethings going on in the tank I presume-just cant put my finger on it. All my Params that I test for are optimum.

    ?????????????????

They sure can eat a lot if you want to feed them often.
I've been playing around with the settings on my camera.. Getting some better pics now.

Amen, Peredhil! Even though I think I've found the "optimal" place, it still closes up for no apparent reason on occasion! Finicky things....

More finicky, I say! They're like saltwater "cats."

    I agree!
