I am sure every tank will be different, I think that is apparent from the differerent results everyone gets, I just have read/heard they prefer non direct light. I have seen plenty placed right in the bottom out in the open. It will most likely depend on how it reacts-no instructions with these guys-LOL

Here is a pic of my new dendro.. I shot it handheld, so sorry for the blur..

Its hard to take a picture of all the polyps. There is one big polyp in the back and a small one next to it that you cant see. I wish I could take a birds eye view pic..

It hasn't opened up yet, but I can't wait until it does.. I want to feed it!! It was really sucked in when I got it, and it's starting to puff out slowly. This guy came all the way from Australia, so I'll let him get used to his new home before I worry.

I fed my tank oyster eggs last night and it responded to the feeding. It looked like it was about to open up, but it didn't.. When it does, I'll take more (better) pics and post them here...

Sweet.. did it open up yet?
It may not be happy from the long trip but I'm sure it will open soon.
Mine only came from N.C to TX so it opened up right away.

Still hasn't opened yet.. It looks like it wants to because I have noticed the coralites moving in and out, but not extending.. Should I try to shade it a little better?? Or just give it more time. I'd hate to bother it in the spot its in..

Do dendros even get effected by the lights?? What I mean is, do they care if they are in shade or in direct light??

Yeah, I have mine near the bottom and it opens up all day but and night it really opens up more.
I think I read at vividaquariums that they can adapt to strong lights:
