    i ended up introducing him at night and using your cage idea. everyones asleep right now but i will see how it goes in the am

    Let him out at night. The fish aren't as fiesty at night. Plus he can find where he is going to rest.

    good plan. surprisingly, while he was in the cage he was eating flake and nori out of my hand... he is a pretty tame fish for being so new!

    Yes, introducing fish after the all the lights have gone out is by far the best plan. it may be a pain to wait that long, but the new fish has the best chance of not being picked on then.

    yeah, actually he had three in... two were timid but the third was verrry active. Even though he had a slight bit of HLLE, we went with the one that was not timid towards anything.
    Then putting him in: this morning there was a tiny bit of aggression from the yellow in the morning. he wanted to show his dominance but the sailfin would not submit! so all day long they were squabbling (nothing too terribly bad, no cuts from tail swipes or anything... but lots of displays and sizing each other up) tonight they each took their own half of the tank and quit fighting for the time being. its not as bad as i expected it to be :)
