    how much will a 5gal of water change at 14dHK affect a 75gal system at 8dHK?...

    any ideas anyone? dont want to shock my system

    Would change it to (5g*14dKh +70g*8dKh)/75g = 8.4dKh

    why worry with all the math stuff? go to bulkreefsupply.com at the top of page there is a link to calcium and alkalinity calculator. use it to get your 75 gallons to where you want (no more than 1 or 2 dkh a day) then when you do a wc, make it with the same alk readings. i like to run about 11 dkh, i have to add alk to my top off water every other day. if my ph is 8.3 to 8.4 i add baking soda, if my ph is 8.2 to 8.3 i add soda ash ( that i bought from brs)
