    diagenesis

This word does not have any matches in 3reef search. Not sure what else to search for, so I am starting a new thread.

This is occurring to my CC substrate lower layer in my DT. Should I care?

Is this in relation to Old Tank Syndrome??? How old is yours?? Or is it just with CC not sand. Or is this due to not moving the substrate around every so often?? Sorry for all the ?'s just trying to understand better.

Maybe. System is up (with this substrate) for about 16 months.

    maybe.

    maybe. I don't stir it.

Sorry for all the ?'s just trying to understand better.

    np, ask away.

I would probably only be concerned if detritus started to build up and was unable to be removed, i.e., sand sifting critters can't scoot through the substrate to clean up.

    yes.

a while back I had considered redoing my scape and decided against it due to the diagenesis happening.

recently, I had to remove a base rock to nuke it (GSP) and out came bricks. Ever after it soaked in bleach\water for 3 days... when I poured that out to move it to a RO bucket, bricks came out with that water too. Solid as can be.

Do you think you might have released something that started your problem with losing fish? Seems like the timeline is just about right.

no, the blenny died before I did that and the wrasse was already hiding all day for the past two days before I did that (very out of character for him). I do not think the two are related. It may have pushed the wrasse over the edge, but it was already on its way.
