Dialing in an Aquatic Life skimmer?

I have one of the aquatic life internal mini protein skimmers and I'm wondering how exactly to dial it in to optimal performance. This is my first skimmer so bear with me. For those unfamiliar with it, it has a knob on top to adjust air intake. When I adjust it, the bubble level at the top can go from the bottom of the collection cup to almost all the way up to the top of the cup. The skimmer is one of the back chambers on my biocube so the only thing really visible is the collection cup. Thanks in advance.

 

Anyone, I'm just wondering where the bubble level should be in the collection cup.

 

What you want to do when setting the skimmer is to have the white foam staying in the inside of the neck and the colored foam rising over into the collection cup.
Basically set it so it will not fill the cup with clean foam and make your collection cup overflow.

 

Ok, about how long before I start seeing colored foam? Right now it's just clean foam but I am getting a small amount of yellow liquid collecting in the cup.

 

I don't know it depends on your tank... If you are getting yellow water in it, it is working and you probably have it set properly. As long as your not dumping it constantly
