    Hi Guys,

I haven't seen my diamond goby today and I am beginning to get worried. He hasn't missed a feeding since I have gotten him about three weeks ago. I have egg crate on top of my aquarium and I doubt that he could have fit through there. I did a search around the house anyway and didn't find anything. I also searched in my sump even though I don't see him getting into my overflow. My fear is that he has perished somewhere in my tank. I have searched in all of his usual places but didn't see him. My questions are:

Do goby's go missing for a day or so and show up?

If he is dead in my tank, do I need to tear it apart to find him? If so, how long should I give him before I go digging?

I tested my ammonia and it is still reading zero.

I tested my water for everything and the parameters were:

    Temp: 79.5
    Ph: 8.2
    Ammonia: 0
    Nitrite: 0
    Nitrate: 0
    Phosphates: 0
    Calcium: 420
    Alkalinity: 11
    Magnesium: 1485

This would be the first fish I have lost (if he is indeed gone) and am not sure what exactly to do. He has been eating well, so I don't really think that he starved to death. Everyone else is acting normal, so I don't think that there is anything in the tank. Thanks for all of the help in advance!!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

If you did lose a fish, it wont harm the water if you have a good cleanup crew. Also all fish do this and will hide from time to time. Theres times i dont see my fire fish for 3-4 days. I used to have a diamond goby who would hide for a couple days at a time. No reason to worry quite yet, give it a day or two then i would start to look.

Thanks for the help. I think my CUC is okay. I hope that you are right and that he is just hiding somewhere. Thanks!!!

i have had a diamond goby go through the eggcrate before, somehow it made it through and he wasnt that small. then i had another hit the eggcrate [which after the first loss i put bridal veil fabric on it] so hard it popped it up and made it out past the eggcrate cover. diamond gobies need heavy duty screens or a canopy they are like houdini. i hope he is in your tank and all is well

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for all of the responses. Still no sign of him this morning. My first thought was that he made it throught the crate. The egg crate didn't look moved or pushed over, so he may have moved through it. My next thought was that one of my three cats got to him if he jumped. I searched the tank room and all adjacent rooms but no sign. Today is water change day, so I plan on doing a little search. Thanks!!!!
