    Most likely yes. The skimmer went nuts because of all that was released into the water from the dead fish.

    the skimmer's job is to remove organic waste from your water. when you have a decaying fish, more organic waste than normal is being added. this is more work for your skimmer. the bad smell could have been the goby but my skimmer never has a pleasant smell decaying fish or not. :)
