    In my experience, using extremely fine filters works the best to polish the water. Nowadays, people resort to buying sterilizers or ozonisers to make the water crystal clear. Sterilizers and ozonizers will kill off diatoms.

    So one could use the magnum canister filter just to polish the tank from time to time as needed. Lots of good input I do apreciate it. Tax season coming soon wanted to see what I can get to clean up the tank a bit.

    My friend uses a diatom to polish the water after he blasts his live rock to get all the dust/sand/sediment off the live rock. He bought his on bigalsonline.com. It is about $100.00.
