Honestly, almost everything the local LFS has told me has been off. You are talking to 17 year old high schoolers who first experience with fish was when they started 3 months ago...

oh no not me I go to a Marine specialist store, lol they build custom saltwater aquariums and things, and are all very knowledgeable, they have over 5000 species there from fresh to salt, as well as a huge variety of corals, most have been in the hobby for 10-20 years lol but still some people have different opinions so I try to talk to a few of them and get all the opinions then make a decision from there haha.

Do you mean the self fill up station at Wal-mart? I know that by using ro/di from the lfs you are trusting them to change filters and and give quality water but does Wal-mart? I may just use Wal-mart for .33 a gallon.

Vendors handle this type of stuff. Not Walmart staff lol. There is on way I would trust Walmart staff to do this. Either way, I should have a RO unit for my house within the month anyways.

i live in an area where there's a community well, i use a pure filter on my tap because they put so much chlorine in the water the taste is awful, the tds of the water without the filter is 157, w/ the filter it is 145 so it does make the water taste better but, does not remove the tds, my ro/di tds is 0 there's just no comparing them as far as water treatment, water in the reef aquarium should be as pure as we can get it in my opinion, algae seems to be a way of life in the closed system so, the more we do as in water purity the better the start. just a carbon filter alone dosen't get it for me but, if its all you have it is better then nothing.

Thanks for the advice, I would eventually like.to get an ro/di unit but we have our forts born very close and its not the top of our list of course hahaha but I am looking into getting one for under 75 to 100 dollars at the moat when the time comes so if you ever hear of a good deal let me know! I'll sway the wife ;) lol
