hi everyone this is my first post so here goes.
i replaced my sand bead about 3 month ago and have been getting this orange/brown algae ever since.im pretty sure it is diatoms but im worryd about diano.i had a cyno out break and sorted that with a phosban reactor.
does anybody have any ideas that could put my mind at rest or help get rid of it? of course the bad news is welcome to hehe.

    thanks in advance

    Welcome to 3reef. :)

Hard to tell from the image, but Dino should be stringy, snooty in appearance, with development of tiny air bubbles developing along the strings as the lighting period progresses during the day.

With replacement for the sand bed then yes Diatoms is a very likely explanation.

Try to get a closer image of the algae please.

Yeah that looks like a mixture Diatoms vs Cyano, all much much better than Dino.

Not sure if the addition of any GFO would help. I would do a little research on the use of GFO and see if might be worth trying.

From the image, I would also have to say that is diatoms and cyano. Is it stringy? Also, does it almost "go away" at night? When I had cyano, it would practically disappear at nighttime but then come back with a vengeance during the day... or at least recede when lights are off. At least that is how the cyano behaved when I had it. If it is, you are on the correct track, imo, with the phosban. Just keep at it and work on getting your parameters down as this is usually the common reason. Good luck!

don't stress it too much. my tank is the same. the sand is covered in diatoms. No matter how much I stir it, they don't go away lol.
