this looks like a cross between diatoms and hair algae...

the tank is 10 weeks old so I'm guessing this is part of the cycle. although I have yet to see any Ammo, Nitrite and Nitrates.?

I have 3 turbo snails, 4 turban, 1 astraea, and 10 Nerite , 3 Cerith snails in the tank.

    thanks for the reply...

What I have does look like the CHRYSOPHYTES. I have been trying to read up but mostly what I have found was your links to that page :) and diatom problems / silicate problems.

I failed to mention that I do use RO/DI filtered water (with silica buster) and it has a TDA monitor which does read 0. I have not tested the WC or top off water for silicates. I will get a test kit on my next supply trip.

Before I over react, is this something I should be conserned with in a new tank?

Nope. You can get rid of those and any other alge you run into. Watch for Phosphates also.
