    I have another possible source. I recently built a DIY in tank refugium that houses caulerpa. The caulking that I used to hold the tank together is still white (used a clear-maturing caulking) and has been since I built it 3 weeks ago. Could that be a continual source of silicates that is causing this never ending accumulation of diatoms?

    Haha I wouldn't worry about the diatoms too much right now- before you know it, you'll wake up and they'll be gone! :)

    Assuming there isn't a silicate source, yes.
