I had a big old scooter Blenny who was pretty elusive so when I didnt see him for a few days I didnt think much of it until I saw a Cinnamon Shrimp party going on and knew it was probably him.
I removed the dead fish and tested my levels to see I had an ammonia spike so I added some Am Guard ammonia tonic. My soft corals are not happy! Especially my mushrooms and brain.
The Am Guard clearly says safe for soft corals and anenomes...I just added it a couple hours ago but I am very worried.
Anyone had a bad experience with this product? Suggestions or will my corals come out of it? Thanks

I know when I added Prazipro to a tank with Xenia in it, they closed up right away for a day. By day 2 they were back to normal, no issues at all. Could just be an initial reaction. As long you the product is good (not expired) and you dosed the correct amount, they should be ok. Obviously keep a close eye on them!

Any sudden swing could cause things in the tank to become unhappy. Did you have a big ammonia spike or did you dose this as a precaution? How big was the spike if you had one? Depending on the size of your tank and how much rock etc you have, a dead fish should not cause a huge problem particularly if you have an agressive clean up crew to deal with it. I am always leary of adding anything to my tank but will be following to see what happens. Hopefully it will work out well for you and i will add this knowledge to my "just in case" bank of knowledge!

I just read your other post and saw you had a spike to 1.0 on your ammonia. I know that you already added Am Guard but it may be a good idea to do a water change now and continue with frequent water changes until things stabilize. It is a good rule of thumb to go with a water change first because it buys time until you can figure out a problem or find another solution. Just my 2c. Good luck and keep us posted!!

Agreed. I just did a 20% water change. Corals aren't looking good. Too much shedding but not looking dead yet just not happy.
What can I do? I'm getting out of the house and hoping things are better in a few hours. Le Sigh...
On a good note (?) watchman Goby is happy and hungry. ammonia is down. :(

Glad the watchman is good. I would keep testing and keep doing water changes as frequently as possible until things are better. Keep us posted.

Shrimp are BY FAR more sensitive to ammonia then fish... if the shrimp lived and is doing fine, I suspect ammonia was not the issue, or just part of the issue.

hmm...& yes they are fine, very fine.
I have a test kit of course and all my levels read fine except for the ammonia spike but I am reading 0 Nitrites. Like, it's light blue no purple at all.
This test is nothing different than the LPS will do.

    Any suggestions for other causes?

Are you using Seachems ammonia test kit, or another brand?

The Seachem test kit is nether salicylate or Nessler based. Other brands will be one of the two. I forget which one, but one does not work with most ammonia removing products and gives you a false high reading.
