Ebay ,made an order a little while ago and wanted some lugol's in my cart.Found lugol's 5% solution under the brand name of Noriche Body and soul.It does say 100% organic 5% lugols solution. No ingredient list on the bottle.

Now the reason for the question-my wife bought me a 15 head purple torch coral two days ago (it's a beast!and she's awesome sometimes ;)) but anyhow, the coral looks fine, just the polyps won't extend.Params are fine along with all other livestock.

Should I dip it to prevent BJD or any other infection/disease?Since we're not new to lps,she looked it over well before buying,no damage/lost tissue/signs of disease. After she got it home,i've keep a very close eye on it,still the same, looks fine just no extention. So i want to dip it as a preventative measure and see if it helps.

I have a 6/7 head froggy doing great in the same general area of the sandbed,so i'm figuring lighting and flow shouldn't be the issue. It's in mild flow and on the far side of the tank so not to be directly under my LED's.Could it still just be stressed and acclimating? The lfs just got it in a shipment that day and wasn't fully opened in there tank either, but looked healthy,so could double tanking this coral stress it that much?I did a slow temp and drip acclimation, just don't want to lose this $100 coral.

If this is what I should do,how many drops of lugols should i use for a gal of tank water to make a dip?And how long of a dip should i do?I've honestly never used lugols before and want to make sure i don't overdose my solution and further stress/harm the coral.

Most likely double tanking, as long as there is no tissue damage. IME, the most effective dip is Bayer insect killer. I haven't tried a Euphyllia yet, but I use it on every new coral that I get, from LPS to smooth skinned acro's. Furan-2 if anything looks infected. Try lower light and flow for a bit, first?

Thanks Jerry, but thats where i'm kinda stuck. The health looks fine and if it is just stressed and acclimating still,I really don't even want to dip it causing further stress if thats it's only issue.

The lugol's I ask about is to make sure I have the right stuff (i know when used properly that it's a great antibiotic and folks have used it for years),and thats the best that I have access to right now. I guess the reason i've never dipped before is because usually anything nice I get is a small frag, but now that my wife has brought this beast home, like said,I really don't want to lose this one.I've always wanted a torch, let alone a giant 15 head purple one.So just not sure to wait it out or take some action.

Since it's already in the tank, I would just keep an eye on it. Low flow, low light for a bit to let it de-stress.

It's not a bad idea to test the alk from the new corals water to determine the length of acclimation. I found out that a lfs near me had a reading of 6, more than once. Putting those corals directly into my tank with an alk of 10 would not have be good.

Bayer would be good to look into for the future. It's super cheap, extremely effective against a long list of pests, and virtually no stress on the coral. Kills red bugs like, right now, too.

Last night I noticed one head receeding a bit with a string of either waste expelling or (but i don't think so) brown jelly.I took this as a sign of distress.Did some quick web researching and watched a few youtube vids on lugols dipping, then went ahead and dipped, basted lightly with a squeeze bulb syringe, rinsed and put back in the tank. This was close to lights out last night. This morning looking in with just ambient light, the polyps are all out farther than before, deffinate improvement with what seemed to cause little to no stress on the torch. Now,should it need repeated,I got it down and feel much more confident about it.Will continue a close observation and go from there.

Hey Jerry and thanks for asking, check out this thread from earlier.

    http://www.3reef.com/forums/id/worm-id-please-141116.html

I think it's safe to say I found the problem with some help from Renee (Incognito).Couldn't find any good pest removal dips locally,so I have some coral rx ordered and 2 day priority mail.

The coral is still looking the same, not in distress, but not happy either, still no extention.
