    i just bought an encrusting montipora from my local lfs for 10 dollars. that was teh normal price and it is a little over half dollar size. just wondering. anything special i should do for it? thanks

    the guy said they sell them for 40 bucks normally (wouldnt gonna pay that, im a cheapo on corals) but since i knew him and they had a lot of them he said ten dollars sounded good. i was like lol ok ill get my first SPS coral for 10 bucks, no problem.

    Are you talking about the montipora capricornis (at least that's what it looks like to me)? The orangish coral in the picture?

    In my area selling a frag of orange montipora for $40 is a lot, it's so common and is a generally a really fast grower. I think the $10-20 range is more of a reasonable price personally. But it's hard to say because coral prices generally vary a lot. If they were actually going to sell that for $40 you must have a pretty poor market for coral, not that there's much you can do about it if that's the case.

    Also I don't think it's an encrusting montipora. It will encrust a bit but it willl plate too, mostly plate.

    ehh no matter what they sell it for normally i got it for 10 bucks. and everyone says its gonna plate so that sounds cool.
