I knew that I needed to rearrange my live rock, I was concerend about a few possible dead spots and covering too much of my live sand bed. After days of delibaration I finally decided to rearrange the pieces I needed to. I had a carefully thought out plan of what rock I was going to move where and how to keep them all fully submerged. My plan didn't work, it took me 10 minutes to realize that putting one of my largets rocks ontop of a few smaller rocks was a ridiculously bad idea. I fixed the problem and now have a much better rock formation, more of my sand is exposed and I have a much better flow.

But I think I might have killed everything. I forgot to turn off my powerheads at first and I have extremely cloudy water. My clove polyps didn't close all the way to protect themselves and they have very, very quickly gone from the bright florescant green to a dark green. It was the one coral moved. I'm worried they might be dieing now. If they were that badly effected the rest of the coral must be screwed. One of my astrenae snails just fell off of a rock, I know they aren't the best climbers, but I've never seen one do that.

Should I panic? Is there anything I can do besides wait till its settled to turn my powerheads back on?

everything is probably irritated because of the sand kicked up into the water column. i would give it a day or 2 to clear up and see how it looks before you do something drastic.

I would think it should clear up. you can add carbon to help clean the water from the new ditrus being in the water column

+1 Yep. no worries. I have rearranged rock in my saltwater tanks millions of times and it does look bad with all the stuff in the water, but it will clear up soon. Just make sure you didn't move any of your corals vertically, that can stress them with the change in light intensity. :)

It's nice to know someone else has done this with no problems.

Thanks everyone for your prompt response.

Should be fine. Although for future reference, putting big pieces of rock on small pieces actually tens to be more stable. If done correctly anyways I.e. Not balancing one big rock on one small rock, but rather one big rock on a number of small rocks. This is much more stable. Think of a table, more pressure on the pressure points. If you put the table upside down, it would slide easy.

    Here's the new look

The sand has started to settle a bit. This is the new rock setup. A lot more of my sand is expose and there is more water flow. No rock touching any glass anywhere.
