I did a water change. Usually I pour my new water in the sump, but for some reason I poured it in the display tank. Some of the salt did'nt disolve in the bottom of the bucket and drifted down on my hammer coral. It has not opened up since except for one little spot on the side. It's been two days. Is it dead? Or will it come back out?

It may just be in shock still.

    Do you have any pictures?

Is the tissue still attached? If so, it maybe alright.. If the skeleton starts showing, that is a bad sign..

I hope all turns out good for you..
You should never even wipe salt creep back into a tank..
As you know, it can burn and kill corals..
    I wish you luck, Larry

The undissolved salt is a killer. I have seen friends murder corals that way. However, Hammers are resilient! I dropped a big chunk of LR on mine (8 head), there was green on the bottom of the LR when I picked it up. Two days later it was back out and doing just fine.

I don't like the method of mixing and dumping sea water into a DT. I mix mine in 20g rubbermaid totes. Let it mix for a day or more with an extra power head circulating things. Then I have a pump (mag 7 here) with a garden hose fitting attached and a safe hose screwed into that. I just pump it up into the tank. Usually there is not any salt undissolved but if there were it would not make it through the pump and into the DT.

How long are you letting the solution mix - sit before adding it to the DT?

Buy yourself an extra pump to move water around...if you're lifting it you're doing it wrong. <-- This applies to everything in life
