did i mkae a mistake?

i purchased the Red sea prism skimmer because i havent had a skimmer yet and it had some good reviews. i looked on here and some people like them and some dont. did i just make a mistake. i have a 29 and some have said that it will be fine on that size tank and some dont. i am kind of worried now. thanks.

many people would run a 29 gallon without a skimmer
IMO having a skimmer is better than not having one

IMO the Red Sea Prizm skimmer will be fine on a 29 gallon
run it for a while, form your own opinion on it

Based on your post count I have to assume you've been on the forums for awhile. So I'm sure you have seen there will always be people who advocate for certain products while others simply despise them. Steve is right, use it for awhile and come to your own conclusion.

I have never had a Prizm, but I have used 2 different Red Sea skimmers
both air driven models Berlin 60 and then 90 - both made me smile with the skimmate they removed from my salt water tanks

expect up to a few days of nothing while the unit breaks in ( this is typical with any skimmer)

then you should get foam which collapses into the collection box as dirty water
if the water is to clear - you adjust the height of the box - move it upwards

from what i have heard about his skimmer the people were running them on 55-75 gallon aquariums and not getting very good results. the ones that ran them on the smaller tnaks got better results. im jsut afraid that it wont perform very well.

 

I have owned both the Prizm and Prizm Pro over the years. The Prizm can be a little finnicky to adjust but does a decent job on systems up to maybe 30 gallons or so. I used mine on a 29, 20 and 18G system and it did its job with a little periodic adjustment. They are a little noisy but most skimmers are. One thing you will want to watch and clean periodically is the little air tube where it sticks into the skimmer motor, the hole is about the size of a toothpick and gets dirty fast which restricts air intake and bubble making ability. I had trouble with mine skimming wet and overflowing so I drilled a small hole near the top front of the collection cup so if it got full it would overflow back into the tank instead of on the floor. I eventually went away from the skimmer on my small systems and now use a modified AquaClear hang on converted to a refugium with macro algaes.

In short the Prizm is not the best but it is better than its competitors like SeaClone, Via Aqua and Jebo all of which I owned at one point or another too so all were first hand experience.
