I have a small piece of live rock with 5 green mushrooms on it. I noticed that my button polyps that were attached to the rock were starting to take it over and over crowd the mushrooms, so I had to take the rock out and take a hammer and chissle and chip off the corner of the rock that the buttons were on. I did this as fast as I could. The coral was only out of the water for only a short period of time. I placed the corals back in the water and turned off my lighting so my mushroom could settle down in the dark. I kept them off until the next morning. It had been 2 hours since I turned the lights on and all of the other coral are awake and open but one of the 5 mushrooms (the largest one) is still all scrunched and curled up. The button polyps I got off of them are perfectly fine, open and everything. Did I seriously harm my mushoom? Is it still in shock maybe? Will it be ok? It's color is the same as before.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I doubt you did any serious long term damage.

Basically you can throw one in a blender and pour it into the tank and in a couple months you would have tons of them, ( I do not suggest doing so). Point is they are nearly indestructible.

Yeah, like coralline said, they are pretty hardy and hard to do some serious long term damage to like that. I wouldn't worry about it.

agreed, a couple minutes out the water will far from hurt a mushroom.
