Since you're tank iis kinda young and needs to wait for much more anyways! get ya some mushrooms, zoas, kenya tree, xenya, maybe a torch or hammer coral placed a little higher up! plenty of options! plus those are easy to frag and learn with and don't cost a ton! plenty of options for now! remember time is your friend in this hobby!

I personally don't recommend Kenya trees though. Those darn things will frag themselves and go everywhere. The can be hard to control.

chelseagrin have you looked at my tank I have a 4 bulb T5HO fixture I keep the lights 28" above the sand bed and keep Acropora tortuosa with no problems. My corals all thrive just fine.

If you keep them on top of your rocks and under your reflectors they should do just fine.

A top of the line T5HO fixture with quality bulbs has about the same PAR measurements at 30" that a 250W MH has at 24". 400W MH are good to 36".

LED is definitely a different matter depending on the diode and the optics used. They can reach to 48" according to some manufacturers.

Just because nature is unkind, doesn't mean we have to be. hopefully, most of us strive to give our animals the best possible care......not just keep them alive in any condition.

IMO why true that we should, if our goal was to provide them the best possible care, we wouldn't keep them in a house in Ohio! We'd keep them in the ocean! That being said, we do what we do and strive to make their stay as best we can! I think his post was meant more as a pat on the back, something to keep the OP excited and striving for more!:)

i agree they are best left in the ocean but then they would not be under anyone's care.
