Does anyone know of a website that specializes in selling corals that are reasonably priced? I'v checked in REEFermadness.com and places like that, however the corals are either very pricy or they have such a small selection. I'm looking for different kinds of Montipora. Ie. Informis, Denai, Palawanensis, Monasteriata, Confusa and Nodosa.
    Thanks in advance...

Are you looking for frags or colonies? Live Aquaria has a pretty decent selection and their customer service is phenominal. Have you checked them out yet? How about local fish stores? Jim at Aquarium Conservation in Cromwell usually has montis for sale. :)

Hi neighbor! Missed ya at the meeting at the puppy Center. Didn't go yesterday. I have talked to Jim at Aquarium Conservation. No luck! He said it is very hard to get Montipora, other than Capricornis and Digitata. Do you have any frags etc. of Montipora.
Also checked at Puppy center as well as most of the stores that give us discounts (CTARS). The ones carried at REEFermadness.com are around $149.99- $190.00! Alittle pricey...have some decisions to make I guess.
Hope your tank is doing well!
What do you have for corals by the way! Type of tank etc.?

Hi there. The meeting at Puppy Center was pretty darned crowded so I'm not surprised that we missed each other :( Yesterday's meeting was pretty decent and there were a lot of coral frags in the raffle so I'm sorry to hear that you missed out.

Because I had some problems in my 90 gallon, I lost all of the corals that were in that tank (which will be broken down once I set up the new 180). I do have some acros, montis and lps corals in a 46 gallon hex but since it's only been set up since December, I don't have much that I can trade or sell yet. I'll have to take some pics of that tank soon and post them here so you can see the set up.

Reefermadness has some really nice corals but the prices are a bit out of my range, especially considering that you have to buy them sight unseen and there's a $150 per order minimum. Have you checked out Live Aquaria? You could also post a thread in the CARS forum on Reef Central asking if any members have frags for sale or if they know what local stores have what you're looking for.

This is just my opinion so don't bite my head off!

The corals at reefermadness are expensive for a reason, they are unusuall... If everyone had them, you wouldn't be searching for them ;)

But what if I wanna? :) Honestly, I am impressed with Reefermadness' corals but I just can't afford them. Luckily, I belong to a club where there's a lot of frag selling/trading of unusual and rare corals so I don't have to miss out entirely :)

The corals you get from there are top quality!

I don't want to open a debate, but I have a lot of rare corals in my personal collection! People cringe at the price of frags! Do you think I got them for free, I paid a premium price as well. These "cherry corals" are usually not something you get in a shipment. I can get plain purple monti's with brown/purple polyps all day long. Do you really want that or do you want the crazy colors. They are pricey for a reason, they are rare...

I have not said anything negative about Reefer Madness or the quality of their corals! I simply stated the fact that they're out of my price range so I'm not sure where the communication breakdown is here.

Hey Vamp75, I have a question for you...Alot of these corals ie. Montipora Denae have exceptional colors. The question for you is will these corals retain their beautiful colors under say 250 watt metal halides on a 125 gal tank(1100 watt total lighting)? I see that corals bought online are under 400 watt or stronger metal halide bulbs. Then you have aquculture farms that grow coral (propogation) in the oceans then to distribute to pet shops. Now these are grown under full sun(intense lighting). Will most of these corals retain most if not all their vibrant color?

Hmm well i think there are some mis-understandings about the pricing at reefer madness, I know this because i am local pick up so there is some differences...basically if you want to see the actual price of their coral, do a 17% discount. Instead of charging shipping they simply raise the price and have a min purchase :)...still expensive...but hey thats ok :) also, i just wait till they get backed up when they put alot of their stuff 40-50% off...so for me its 57-67% off lol...its all about patience :D
