I have been using Kalk differently than most people for about 3 months now. I dose BRS 2 part from 7 gallon jugs in my sps dominant 210g reef. I wanted a way to slow down my consumption so I could go longer between mixing up new solutions each time. I also wanted to dose kalk and a carbon source. After a bunch of research on kalk, and carbon dosing I decided my route.

I take a gallon of vinegar and pour about a cup of kalk in to it. I mix vigorously as the vinegar acts as a co2 source and causes a full reaction all the way to the desired out come right there in the bucket. I usually end up with residual kalk in the bottom after giving it a chance to settle. I just siphon off the clear solution back into the vinegar bottle and dose that directly into the tank!

This method gives a supercharged kalk dose and a carbon source! This solution is also not at risk for bacteria population so it sits well over the course of a month or two. With none of the traditional risks associated with Kalk due to having cause a full reaction, you can ignore the kalk side completely (so long as your consumption is greater than the amount of Calcium and Alk added by this addition) and dose it as if it were straight vinegar by the guidelines layed out in Vodka Dosing by 'Genetics' and 'Stony_Corals' - Reefkeeping.com only since it's vinegar and not vodka multiply the calculations by 8 as vodka is 40% vs. vinegar at 5%.

be careful to always use quality kalk if you do this. Not Mrs. Wages...
It can cause heavy metals that are usually in the precipitate to stay suspended.

Is the BRS grade high enough quality?

Edit: it's pharmaceutical grade, should be fine.
