    Four fiddy is right. I just want to do it right. The cross braces will be 2"x6" since Jason said I don't need the 4"x4"'s.

    i agree with not needing the 4x4s. 2x4s used as jack studs (directly under the horizontal supports) will be just fine. if you think about it, a good amount of a 4x4 will not have any weight on it after you set your horizontal supports on it. If the material doesn't have any weight on it, what is it really doing? ... nothing.

    the only reason I would use a vertical 4x4 (or double 2x4) is if you plan on running a double 2x6 joist (horizontal support) and there is no reason to use double 2x6s either.

    You can also use a free Sketchup Plug-in call IDX Renditioner to create photo shots so you can see what it will look like when you get it done. That is what I did here. Actually I used the paid version for those shots, but I did not use the paid features.
