I have the Aquastar digital PH monitor and probe, been very happy with it, had it (I cannot remember exactly, but it could be 3 years or so)

I requires re calibration 2 or 3 times per year
and I know when it needs it, as it gives me crazy readings one day after behaving perfectly normal the day before etc

I have mine on 24/7 plugged into the mains - the battery would only last a few weeks if it is left on permenant

there are plenty of good models out there to chose from IMO
and PH, whilst many would say it is not important, providing your Alk is in check
is still something that IMO , is good to keep track of and with at a glance reading
the PH probe and monitor, makes it very convenient to do so

i had the pinpoint ph monitor before i bought an apex controller. i found the pinpoint to be a very good working ph monitor, and easy to calibrate. the pinpoint can be run with battery or an ac adapter that you can buy separately. i had bought the adapter but found the battery more convenient. the ph probe was in the sump and always on.

Do you feel the apex is worth the money. I am torn on whether to get one. I would like to automate my tank. Will the apex hook up to an automated doser and replenish the tank with Calcium ect?

    Thanks, Sloanhaus

i feel the apex is well worth the money, yes you can hook a doser to it, i just added a doser to mine, but my doser has its own timer, i run the doser at night tokeep ph up. im using the apex as a fail safe. so if the doser gets stuck on the apex will shut it down if the ph reading gets over 8.05. you can just set the apex to dose also with just a dosing pump. that has no timer.
i have water on floor sensors on my apex, a conductivity probe, temp probe, ph probe, the apex works great, emails me if there is a problem , will shut the heater down if the temp goes to high. can sign into the apex threw my iPhone and turn any thing on or off on it from anywhere and get the temp and probe readings, i started out with the apex lite and have been adding to it.
