Ok, so according to Johns pics in the stiky above I have Dino. Tank is 3months old and always used DI from my filter and GFO for the past 2 months. One problem I can see is the dual reactor is pumping from the fuge (suppling 200gph from sump) and not the sump (825gph through DT then back) , fuge (with macro's) is pest free which is how I know to move my reactor to the sump. Having said that, it seems I got the stuff over night and is on every tip of my 100# of dry base rock. I don't want to take out all 100# of rock cause I will loose 80% of my bacteria which would be a major set back, the other 20% bacteria coming from fuge and sand. Any other suggestions besides taking out all 100# of rock from my DT and killing it?

Are you sure its dyno? Cyano can be mistaken as dyno. If you have added live rock or sand lately you could be going through another cycle. I have dealt with Cyano before and usually will go away as quick as it comes but can be frustrating at times. Jmo. somebody else could probably help you better but pics would be good

Closest guess by ID thread but no not certain. Pics would be hard because it's only long thin tenicle and not all have grown long yet, my camera phone isn't that sharp either. It starts as tanish/green bumps, then looks like a tanish anamone tenicle, maybe 1/4 long and 1/8 thich, then proceeds to get real long and thin as a hair with a air bubble at the tip. No, not added any sand, rock, or anything like that since I started my cycle 3 months ago. I added a snail cuc Thursday but already had this at that time. My diatoms went away finally so all silicates are used up and trates are ultra low. my light have been off for 48hrs now and will not turn them back on till I see what happens next. Theres a guy over at the lfs I like a lot and knows his stuff, I may see if he will come over to take a look for me, cant hurt to ask.

I would say its probably cyano but never hurts to get someone to look at it. Good luck if its dyno that's some nasty stuff.

well i just looked at some more pics through past threads from 2010, his was a mat of the dino, mine is individual tenicles growing from the rocks. Its only growing from the tips of the rocks also, none of the crevisis or pockets.
if it is cyano, whats the best way to get rid of it? Maybe I will try that first and see if it will start dying off.

If the stuff looks like snot and there are tons of bubbles all over it probably is Dino's...

What I did to get rid of mine was to cut back on my feeding to once every other day and cut down on my lighting time. It took about a week and then it started to disappear and have not had problems with it since but that's my experience with it. Once it started to disappear it went quickly. You can do a search in the search box and see what other people say. It gets frustrating but hang in there you will get through it.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
You can clean dino off the rocks with a turkey baster or power head and in 4 hours you will have long strings with bubbles attached, during the photoperiod. It can affect zoanthids so they do not open.

What did not work for me: GFO, WC, Carbon, Purgien.

    What did work:
Complete black out of 4 days.
pH raised and maintained at 8.4-8.6 24/7.
Cleaning off all rocks and corals daily with turkey baster and then cleaning the mechanical filtration after the water clears.

Make sure it's dino first though.
