I'm new to reefing and see that many use dry rocks now to avoid unwanted pests. I'm wondering if I can buy live rock from local stores and just dip it in CoralRx or something like that just like you were treating a coral to get rid of the pests. The corraline algae and beneficial bacteria would not be affected right? Any problem with this? I just don't want to wait months for corraline to show.
    Thanks

You would probably have a good bit of die off on the live rock that would cause a cycle. You would probably not kill all the pests unless you soaked it for a very long time. So if you want to make sure you don't pests go with dry rock. Then again you will always get things in your tank from coral frags and other things you put in your tank. Even if you dip every coral and take great precaution you still don't kill everything in the frag plug. It seems that detrimental pests are rare so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
