I can't stress this enough, softies and lps aren't too much to worry about. You sps guys and gals MUST dip and quarantine your new acro and monti purchases.I just pried off 6 inch across caps of every color, and threw them into the garbage,a few wks ago.Yes the dreaded monti eating nudis, rainbow and superman monti's as well. Now i just cut this tri color valida from out of the rocks last nite.and threw it out.Yes it was as i feared AEFW !!! i almost cried.Made a phone call to a buddy that has a salt store 3-1/2 hrs away. He's shipping me fluke tabs and tropic marine pro coral cure on the bus tonite.Making ro/di as fast as my unit makes it.Then in a few days bite the bullet and start removing acro colonies for at least a month,in a emergency quarantine. Here's the tri color from last nite, chopped into peices,sad...... just sad.You MUST dip and quarantine .Lesson hard learned.........

Same tri color is on the right in this pic, this is a month ago.At least it's a bit comforting to have a pic of... what was :(

man that hurts! Sorry to hear that....I have dipped all my corals since I got monti eating nudi about 1 year ago. Was horrible....lost all my montis in a matter of days! I went 6 months or so without any of my favorite corals.Again sorry for your experiences! K+

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. I whole-heartedly agree, I've gotten one or two nasties in on frags as well. Also, no matter what the seller tells you still dip! They don't always know that they have a problem when they sell something to you.

I also feel your pain as we had to throw all of our montis out because of nudibranchs. We had some really big colonies too so it was heartbreaking. Quarantining all corals is very important. Even if they're not acros or montis, the coral you add could easily carry these hitchikers in with them as well.

I just recently found some nudis on my monti spongodes.... odd thing is I haven't added corals in a couple months... I suppose an egg sack couldv'e been hanging out.

Like everyone here is stated, even tank grown corals can have pests, not just wild colonies.... Sometimes tank raised corals are worse as there are less predators of the pests in our home systems....

Even a simple freshwater dip is effective enough to rid nudis, IME it is more effective then paying for iodine/dide, concoctions.....

Good luck Papa, your T5 lit reef was something to oogle over!!

Man, this is scaring me. I've just geared up for a new reef set up and did not dip or quarantined some extra live rocks that I got from someone. I just did a massive water change and added some 30lbs of aragonite sand and 30lbs of live rock. The tank is being left to cycle for a few days before I add back the fish and inverts, possible the coral a few days after. Now, is there something I should be concerned about with the new live rocks that I just added. Should I dose the tank with something right now before adding any fish back in as a preventative measure or are live rocks less of a threat since they've been in an established tank for 6 or 7 months prior? And dip the existing fish and inverts prior to releasing them back into the tank correct?
