I have cleaned my ATS screen now 4 times and it is still dark nastiness all over it. How long will it take to start growing green thick algae? My screen is scuffed up well.

I'm wondering the same thing. My screen has been running for about a month now and I get alot of gooey brown stuff and some green on the screen but not a thick carpet of hair like I expected.

I gather your tank has high nutrients like my'n. There are little green specs of green algae growing but with some of the youtube vids i have seen they have green 3D screens! That is the name of the waiting game with this hobby!

my experience was the same. About 3 months. Could take longer if you are very high nutrient to start with. IF you are growing the black sludge right now, you should clean every 4-5 days until you start getting more hair algae.
