dirty sand

    hi everyone out there in reef land ;does anyone have any tips on how to siphon dirt off of very fine sand !! i try but it seems to get buried and what i do catch wont come up the siphon :confused:

    Use a wider tube to siphon, and you will end up siphoning off some sand. You can replace it every so often with new sand. ;)

    I also stir my sand up from time to time

    Not sure about wider BL, I am thinking smaller diameter hose in this case. :confused1

    yea i stir every now and then to, but it made my ugly slime algea problem even uglier! still waiting on parts from states!!

    i have brown algae growing on my sandbed but not my rock what is causing this? and how can i get rid of it?

    sounds like cyanobacteria. Due to less than perfect water quality. Do you use RO/DI water? Over feed? There are lots of posts here regarding cyano...under the algae forum...go check em out ;D
