Hey everyone i'm new here and new to the aquarium world also. I currently have a 55gallon with about 3 inches of sand 60lbs of live rock, one long nose hawkfish, hippo tang, yellow tang, and a potters angel. Just recently i've been battling my nitrate levels and learning to keep them down. My sand is starting to go from the new pretty white color to old funky brown nastyness. What can i do to help the appearance of my sand? Any tips would be very appreciated.

yes, at at the age, there is imo too much live stock in the tank...not to mention that the hippo tang will probably outgrow it in time

That funky brown I'm guessing is cyanobacteria, new tank symptoms. What I do when it turns brownish on the top is I take my turkey baster and sift it by sucking it and pushing it out.

Holly Crap man that's a lot of fish for a 55G. Those fish will all get big.

Ya I agree it is new tank syndrome. It will get worse before it gets better. But there is little you can do.
