I just added a Yellow Wrasse to my tank. After acclimating it I added it to the tank and went to throw away the bag. When I returned the Wrasse was gone. I searched the tank (28G Nano) Filter Section, Floor, and everywhere else I thought the fish could be but its nowhere. I read that they will bury themselves in the sand when sleeping or frightened. Does anyone know how long they may hide in the sand?

Could be anywhere from 1-3 days.

Any wrasse can hide for a long time. My old dragon wrasse hid for a week once after i cleaned the tank.

What other tank mates do you have? Could be scared of them. Most fish that can, will hide at first or when scared. Just give it a little bit it'll get used to the tank. Or as much as it can.

I take it the fish is a Halichoeres chrysus.... They will bury themselves for up to a week at times, coming out at night to eat bethnic inverts...
I had a Christmas wrasse at the store that I didn't see for over two weeks once until if finally popped out to say hi..
I would just wait and see, oh and look around the tank on the floor! ;)

I like the fact that my new tank's stand is open on the bottom. When my leopard wrasse hides or sleeps, I can see where it is. See the tail?
