Y'all need to be looking at the AI Sol-talk about doing what you want to do with your lights. Best LEDs out there :) IMO of course.

You still have your canopy? Maybe a t5/rapid combo? 2 t5 bulbs and 12 crees? If you could trade for a t5 retro setup and cash then use the cash to add leds to it.

Nope. Sold the canopy a while ago.
Although that's a good thought. Maybe I could trade+ cash for a t5 fixture and take a few bulbs out and retro a small rapid kit in it. Hmm.

Might be getting 2 36" current t5 fixtures for trade. 6 bulbs a peice. I'm thinking of running one for the time being and selling the other fixture then taking that money and buying a small rapid kit.
I could run it in the housing with the 2 end t5s still in and take the middle 4 out. Thoughts?

have you considered metal halide? Gives the shimmer you would be looking for. You could always keep one or two the the LED strips for evening time.

I am so on the fence with LEDs. I have attended a couple talks on them and I am not overly impressed. I LOVE the way they look, but there are so many unknowns out there about them. Many of the people that I know that has gone all LED has gone back to their MH after they had loss coral growth.

Trust me it is not the cost of the fixtures that has me leary, I currently have 7 250w MH fixtures that I change the bulb every 6-8 months along wtih the T5 that goes with it. (several different tanks of course)

I had mh before my leds. I liked them, but the heat and electricity cost was killing me. Along with bulb replacement and having to have a canopy to run them.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to do this trade, 6t5s will be more than enough to support my tank until I figure out the led route. I really liked the way the pars looked hanging but now I'm kinda ehhhh about it. A little to bulky for my liking.

reefwerks.com is putting me together a 48 led Creed system complete! We're in the process of tweeking the colors, but in the end I'll have 2 24 led systems that is basically the same as the al sol but for around $400 less by the time you add everything you need with them! I'm gonna have to literally hang it! And its not gonna cost alot more than if i did a rapidled DIY kit! Nervous about blowing up $250 worth of leds!
